The Latest Driver Safety Technologies

Car_technology-iStock_000045322586-cosmin4000Every day, we're getting closer and closer to self-driving cars. In fact, a number of models are already on the market that are more than capable of driving hundreds of miles on the Interstate with almost no input from a human being.

Currently, they're required by law to disengage if the driver doesn't touch the steering wheel every so often, but the capability is here right now.

Meanwhile, the features that enable this capability are being marketed independently as the following driver safety technologies.

Hyundai’s New Virtual Owners Manual Means No Glovebox Fumbling

1_hyundai_virtual_guideTo get car information into the hands of drivers faster and more easily, Hyundai has reinvented the owner's manual using Augmented Reality for the Hyundai Virtual Guide app.

Augmented Reality overlays a smartphone's or tablet's camera image with words and links to learn about what is shown on the screen.

Instead of fumbling through an owner's manual book, a car owner points a camera at the dash, instrument cluster, or engine to discover its functions and how it works.

Are Boomers Embracing New Vehicle Technologies, Including Self-Driving Cars?

Car_technology-iStock_000063962599-welcomiaAs car manufacturers continue to introduce new vehicle technologies, it's important that all drivers learn how they work and how to use them effectively.

This is especially true for mature drivers as many technologies such as blind-spot warnings and reverse back-up cameras can enhance driving safety and the driving experience as we age.

Vehicles today have many more features than they did 10, 20 or 50 years ago. But when it comes to going high-tech behind the wheel, are older drivers willing to adopt them? In this attached video at YouTube, Jodi Olshevski, a leading gerontologist from The Hartford Center for Mature Market Excellence, and Joseph Coughlin, Director of the MIT AgeLab, discuss findings from their Vehicle Technology Adoption Among Mature Drivers study and talk about how new technologies can benefit older drivers.

Shopping For A New Car? Survey Shows Consumers Want Car Technology

Incar_technology-AppleCarPlayIs it the color of the exterior and interior that grabs your attention when shopping for a car? How about its engine or its miles per gallon? Car buyers care more about smartphone integration and infotainment features than cost and color of the vehicle, putting pressure on automakers to anticipate and deliver technologies consumers want most. Where Do Those Big Car Bows Come From?

Holiday_car_bow-chevrolet-PRNewswire-291385You've seen the commercials on television for new cars adorned with a giant bow -- there's plenty of them airing during this holiday season. Maybe you're dreaming about finding one just like it in your own driveway on Christmas morning. Ever wonder where those big bows come from?

Founded in 2009, the Car Bow Store is a family-owned and operated company that has built a business of manufacturing oversized car bows at their Warminster, Pennsylvania, headquarters. The store is a division of MBR Marketing, which sells supply items to the automotive industry. Ranging from about $26 to $50 in a variety of colors and sizes, you don't actually have to tie them on to the car; they've got a handy magnet or suction cup to help them stick to the car.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change Raises Over $10,000 with October Sale of Pink Wiper Blades

Valvoline_Instant_Oil_Change-go_PINK_-800-zps60d5ca27I was driving my son home from school last week when I saw a black Honda Civic with PINK wiper blades. I smiled at the driver as she passed me because I knew a portion of the revenues from her wiper blades helped support Breast Cancer Awareness.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change's annual  PINK Wiper fundraising campaign sold pink wiper blades during October, to raise more than $10,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® (NBCF). Valvoline shops across the country were decorated in pink, and employees wore pink  shirts -- some guys even dyed their hair or wore pink wigs -- to raise awareness of this campaign. Check out some of the pink fun here at our Pinterest page.
