2013 FORD ESCAPE: You will get a ‘kick’ out of this!!

Ford-Escape-2013-right-side-viewI recently had the opportunity preview some of FORD’s new products and features and I have to admit “FORD does it again”!

Kick it

The redesigned 2013 Ford Escape SUV made its debut earlier this month at the LA Auto Show and goes on sale next Spring. One of the most exciting new features for me was their “hands-free” power lift gate which works with the use of a gesture and in this case is a ‘kick of the foot’ under the rear bumper of the vehicle. The hands-free liftgate uses two sensors in the rear bumper to detect a person’s shin and kicking motion. This motion technology is similar to that found in video games and opens the liftgate or closes it as needed. No more setting those packages on the ground while fumbling for keys. Only someone who has the key fob can make it work. And Ford has built in a safety feature which locks out the operation while the vehicle is in motion and is programmed not to open or close when an animal runs under the car or when the vehicle hits a bump. And, the liftgate height can be programmed or adjusted manually to meet individual customer needs. This will be part of an optional technology package.

Faster, Simpler, Better-My Ford Touch®

Another available great technology feature that keeps you connected is the available SYNC® with My Ford Touch®. It features an eight-inch LCD center touch screen, a four inch LCD cluster screen located on the instrument panel, and dual USB ports and Wi-Fi capability. One has the choice of voice commands or the touch of a button. The home screen has a four corner layout to direct the user to: Phone, Navigation, Entertainment and Climate. A no-charge software upgrade will be available to existing owners.

Check out this video for a complete demonstration.

Fords’ EcoBoost

Not only is this Ford Escape SUV a technology leader, it is a fuel economy leader too! It will be offered with three fuel-efficient four-cylinder engines including 1.6L and 2.0L versions of Ford’s EcoBoost engines. The new 1.6L EcoBoost engine is expected to deliver better fuel economy than competitor’s larger 4 cylinder engines. The 2.0L EcoBoost is expected to offer better fuel economy than its competitors V6 engines while delivering unsurpassed performance compared to those larger six-cylinder engines.

Since the Ford Escape was first introduced in 2000, nearly 2 million Escapes have been sold and with continuous innovations it is easy to understand why so many Ford Escapes are on the road. Visit the www.ford.com web site for further information.
