Have a Distraction Free Friday!
NHTSA Administrator David Strickland has been championing safer, distraction-free driving since the beginning of his tenure in January of 2010. The DoT has launched a website – Distraction.gov – to educate Americans and policymakers about the dangers of distracted driving. To date, 33 states, the District of Columbia and Guam, have passed anti- texting laws – eight of those states have also banned handheld phone use while driving.
Our friends at Be Car Chic did a great interview with David about distracted driving as part of their Distraction Free Fridays campaign. Check out the whole interview over at the Be Car Chic Blog. Distraction free driving is a cause very important to us here at Ask Patty - that's why we have become a distributor of the Mobile TattleTale app which helps curb teens' urge to text and drive. We've told you about the app here before, but you may not know where the money from that app ends up. No one at Ask Patty is lining their pockets with those licenses - every penny of our profit from sales of the Mobile TattleTale go to support the United Spinal Association, a charity for those with spinal cord injuries which is also very close to the Ask Patty cause. Head past the jump for more...
United Spinal Association is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization formed in 1946 by paralyzed veterans who pioneered the disability rights movement. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of all Americans living with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCI/D), including multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), and post polio.
The core belief of United Spinal is that, despite living with a disability or mobility impairment, a full, pro-active, and rewarding life is not only possible, it is within the reach of anyone with the strength to believe it and the courage to make it happen. For over 60 years, we have been an active voice in the disability community and a leading provider of outstanding programs and services for individuals with disabilities.
So, it's pretty simple: for a mere $4.99, you could save a life by preventing a texting-related accident, and support people living with spinal cord injuries at the same time. So have a Distraction-Free Friday, Ask Patty Nation - get a copy of the Mobile TattleTale app here and help fight texting while driving, or make a tax-deductible donation directly to United Spinal.
Have a great and safe weekend out there!
