Ask Patty Around the World Blog Carnival: October 15, 2007

It's October and this is not a trick; we're still promoting Breast Cancer Awareness month as a time for people to come together and use the power of community to make a difference for such an important cause.

Cafepress_breast_cancer The CafePress Breast Cancer Donation Shop  contains hundreds of products designed and donated by generous CafePress community members. CafePress donates an amount equal to 40% of the retail price of all products sold through the Breast Cancer Donation Shop from October 1, 2007 to October 31, 2007 directly to a national charitable organization with a specific focus on Breast Cancer health, education, and awareness. Visit to see more community donated designs!

Coastalbendmom_logo_2 CoastalBendMom has joined a "Virtual Walk" being held as a benefit for the Gal To Gal Foundation, which supports women facing Stage IV breast cancer. The money raised from the walk will go to help make wishes come true for Stage IV breast cancer victims.  To participate in this online walk for cancer, donate $3, and create your own online gal to join the walk while you monitor her progress from comfort of your own home! Opipinknailpolish As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Self Magazine sent us this alert about a special shade of pink nail lacquer from OPI. Called "Pink of Hearts," this polish was created exclusively by OPI to support the power of pink; in 2007 OPI will donate $25,000 in honor of breast cancer awareness to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Honda_crz_conceptcar News about the Tokyo Motor Show is beginning to hit the radar, including this Honda Compact Rennaissance Zero (CR-Z) Concept car we found at the Detroit Free Press. Honda has discontinued its Hybrid Accord and Insight models, but is promising a new hybrid in 2009. Could this sleek sportscar portend of Honda's next hybrid vehicle?

Cartheives Here's a rather interesting interview with a convicted car thief who stole more than 100 vehicles. Using knowledge gleaned from his many thefts, Wenchwisdom has posted a list of tips to reduce the chances of losing your own car, including such sage advice as "Don't leave anything in your car a thief might consider a bonus when stealing your car." Volkswagen_bus Sixty thousand people converged in Hanover recently to participate in a three-day festival celebrating the 60th birthday of the Volkswagen Bus. On hand were more than 5,000 examples of the revolutionary vehicle that changed the way people used -- and experienced -- the road.

Clutch Learnedonwomen has stumbled across on a different way of marketing cars to women, in the form of Vancouver, British Columbia-based Clutch - a retailer with a beautifully designed showroom and a very deliberate, female-friendly sales approach. What do you think? Share your opinion with

Kiddriving Colorado police are wondering how a 6-year-old managed to stuff his booster seat behind the wheel of a car and still manage to reach the gas pedal. Fortunately, according to this report, he didn't get the car out of reverse, and crashed it before he could do much damage.

Gasgauge Did you know you can tell which side of the car the gas tank is on, simply by looking at the pump icon on the dash? Some of us look for an arrow to tell us which side of the car it's on, but according to carblog, it's indicated by which side of the pump icon the handle is on. Have you checked your own?

Nascar_angels_logo To celebrate National Fall Car Care Month in October, Goodyear Gemini is hosting complimentary Women's Car Care Clinics in major market locations across the United States. Held in conjunction with the "Be Car Care Aware" educational campaign, the clinics are designed to better acquaint women with their vehicles' maintenance needs in specially designed women's-only car-care clinics meant to provide women with the information to master the art of car maintenance and automotive self-reliance. Get the schedule here.

2006_spyker_c8_laviolette_sport_cou Sue Zesiger Callaway has assembled a collection of her favorite outrageously cool custom cars; each of them hand-built from the ground up by small-volume manufacturers for drivers who crave extreme performance, unique design and detailed workmanship. The Spyker C8 is one of our favorites.
