AskPatty is #Grateful in November for... Freedom

AskPatty_is_#Grateful-03-Freedom

On this day following the Presidential elections, AskPatty shares the following quotes to help all Americans remember that we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

"We pray for all who hold positions of leadership and responsibility in our national life. Let your blessing rest upon them, and make them responsive to your will, so that our nation may be to all the world an example of justice and compassion.

"Deepen our love for our country and our desire to serve it. Strengthen our power of self-sacrifice for our nation’s welfare. Teach us to uphold its good name by our right conduct.

"Cause us to see clearly that the well being of our nation is in the hands of all its citizens; imbue us with zeal for the cause of liberty in our own land and in all lands; help us always to keep our homes safe from affliction, strife, and war.

“Amen."
~ The New Union Prayerbook for the Days of Awe

AskPatty is #Grateful in November for... #GreenLightAVet

AskPatty_is_#Grateful-01-#Greenlight_for_Vets

America’s veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it can be hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they’re more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet  is a campaign to establish visible national support for veterans by changing one light in or around our homes to green, the color of hope, renewal, and well-being.

AskPatty-10-Halloween_Trick_or_Treating_Is_Fun-10

According to KidsAndCars.org and the CDC, children are more than four times as likely to be killed by a car while trick-or-treating on Halloween night than at any other time of the year.

Halloween is a dangerous night, but it doesn't mean you should be scared to let your kids out of the house as long as you help them understand how to be a safe pedestrian.

AskPatty-06-Headlight_Out_Is_Scary-06

Did you know? October is Headlight Safety Month! The seasons are changing and days are growing shorter so it's especially important that we all ensure our cars are safe and visible before setting our clocks back on Sunday, November 6.

October Doesn't Have to be Scary: The Check Engine Light

AskPatty-05-Check_Engine_Light_is_Scary-05

One of the most vital components to a properly functioning vehicle is the 'Check Engine' light. It alerts the driver to a variety of potential problems based on the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system, and can seem like one of the most mysterious lights on your dashboard.

When the 'Check Engine' light comes on, it means that some system in your vehicle, including ignition, fuel injection or emission control, is not operating at peak performance, even if your vehicle appears to you to be running normally. The warning light generally indicates that the engine management computer has detected a malfunctioning fuel, emissions component, or a system failure.

October Doesn't Have to be Scary: The TPMS Light

AskPatty-04-The_TPMS_light_is_Scary-04

Do you know what this dashboard light means? It is your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) telling you that one (or more) of your tires is dangerously under-inflated.

If you see the light, don't be scared! But you should make an immediate effort to check the pressure in all four tires manually using a tire pressure gauge, or swing by a local tire shop and ask them to check it for you. Many shops, including Firestone Tire and Auto, will perform this service for you and inflate them to their correct pressure as a courtesy.
