Yes, You Can Drive That Exotic Auto Show Concept!

DESIGN_MB-AMG-Vision-Gran-Turismo_03sThere’s no better place to search for a new car than at an auto show, where attendees can research and evaluate hundreds and hundreds of production vehicles from every manufacturer, making it a great way for women to cross shop their preferred selection of brands and models without the pressure of a salesperson trying to make a sale.

But parked alongside those production models can be found a small but exotic selection of concept cars; automotive eye candy built to demonstrate special features or cutting-edge technology that may eventually trickle down into production models. Costing millions of dollars to create, these spectacular vehicles are beautiful to look at, but are often crushed when auto show season is over, never to be driven by the average consumer.

Have You Ever Participated in a Riddle Road Rally?

THE_SEXTANT_GROUP-10TH_ANNUAL_ROAD_RALLY-funcarA contest of precision, road rally participants receive a series of instructions filled with riddles and puzzles that lead drivers and navigators on a specific route. The course is planned to be completed in a set time, and the goal is to finish in as close to that precise time and mileage as possible.

The “riddle rally” is not your typical race – it involves solving clues to decipher a route, driven at legal speeds on public roads. Smart phones and GPS can be dangerous tools!  The RR is deliberately designed so that the info found on a GPS or smart phone can be extremely misleading.

Car Games: Volkswagen replaces Punch Buggy with SmileDrive

Volkswagen-smiledrive-app-smilescoreIf you would prefer NOT to be punched in the arm by passengers in the car whenever they spy a Beetle on the road, then you might prefer the modern, high-tech version of the game -- called SmileDrive -- playable on your smart phone. (Sorry Apple fans, the game is not yet available for iPhone users.)

Whether you call it “Slug Bug,” “Punch Buggy,” or “Slug Dub,” the free app from Volkswagen and powered by Google has re-imagined the classic car game, automatically allowing people to collect “punches” each time they encounter another Volkswagen also using the app. But the app also does much more than that!

Aside from preventing bruises, SmileDrive is designed to maximize fun on every trip, by connecting to a user’s car—any kind of car—through Bluetooth® wireless technology, to run in the background and track data for both everyday commutes and road trips. (Drivers cannot interact with the app, nor receive any notifications, while the car is in motion.) Then, after a drive is complete, the app uses factors like location, distance, time, and weather to deliver users their Smile Score and awards them with virtual bumper “stickers” for unique accomplishments earned while out and about.  (I wish I had installed the app for my 3400-mile summertime roadtrip across the southwest United States!)

Top Tips for Tailgating

Thinkstock-tailgating-200361156-00sLabor Day has passed, summer vacations are over, and the kids are back in school; while it might seem that all the fun is behind us, football fans welcome a new season of their favorite sport, celebrating many weekend games in the parking lot of their team’s arena.

Whether you're a superfan or just love one, the start of the season means it's time for tailgating. And for those who love to entertain, tailgating is almost as much a sport as the game itself.

Chaotic Connections a Crazy Christmas Road Trip Fun Board Game

CC-New-Box-Top-for-Slide-Show-on-Home-PageI had loads of family fun over the holiday's playing a new road trip game with my family. This new game would be tons of entertainment for game nights with friends. Easy to learn for kids, Chaotic Connections is highly addictive, we played non-stop all day on Christmas! If you love games with a revenge twist, you will LOVE this game.

Chaotic Connections is a board game, sent to me by the creator to test, that is packed with strategy, chance and competition. The object of the game is to be the first player to connect his or her 4 cities that were randomly dealt at the beginning of the game. By building roads from one city to the next, game players will battle wits to try and win the game.

CCboardHowever, there are Curve Cards, Detours, and those sneaky little players that like to give you an additional city (or two!) to connect. You must also remember that all players building a road can use your road while attempting to connect their cities...so watch out! This may cause them to win the game! To boot...the opponent can break down your road and take all of your hard work away...and then throw in a Road Block for kicks.

Visit the website at www.chaoticconnections.com to learn more. Retails for $29.99.

Summer of Pride: The Final Word

SummerofPrideLogoIt's finally time to put a big bow on the Turtle Wax Summer of Pride Game, which ran from July - September here in the Ask Patty Nation.  It took a little time, but our September winner is finally ready to be announced - and along with him, we're going to celebrate all three of our winners from the summer.

The Summer of Pride Game was a Flickr contest that ran all summer - you can still peruse all the entries in the group pool here.

Picture 8September's Winner:  Jacob Humiston
Jacob takes pride in many things - his ride among them - but more importantly, WE take pride in HIM, in recognition of his service to the country.  Thanks for your service, and for participating in our game, Jacob!

August_WinnerAugust's Winner:  Tim Osborne
Tim's Flickr moniker of "MustangMan2011" isn't accidental.  Over the summer he sent us photos of several of his precious Ford Mustangs, and this series with the bright yellow new-style 'stang took the cake in August.

July_WinnerJuly's Winner:  Mike Brewer
Mike wowed us right away with some classic cars early on in the summer - and this beautiful red Impala was crowned our first winner of the year.

Thanks to everyone who participated, and of course to our good friends at Turtle Wax for helping us bring this contest to you.  The Summer of Pride may be over, but remember Turtle Wax and Do Yourself Proud all year long (follow them on Twitter and Facebook too for cool updates) - another summer's coming just around the corner, and until then, the Ask Patty Nation will be rockin' all year long.
