Christmas is just a few days away, and if you’re still looking for gift ideas, here are a few more. We’ve gathered up a collection of great ideas for the younger drivers in your family. No matter their age or driving level, we've got something here to please all your car-loving kids! Or, if you’re at a loss for what to pick up for that pet lover in your life, or looking for something to make your own pets' holiday a little brighter, we’ve also found a few fun things for your special pets!
If you would prefer NOT to be punched in the arm by
passengers in the car whenever they spy a Beetle on the road, then you might prefer
the modern, high-tech version of the game -- called SmileDrive
-- playable on your smart phone. (Sorry Apple fans, the game is not yet available for iPhone users.)
Whether you call it “Slug Bug,” “Punch Buggy,” or “Slug Dub,” the free app from Volkswagen and powered by Google has re-imagined the classic car game, automatically
allowing people to collect “punches” each time they encounter another
Volkswagen also using the app. But the app also does much more than that!
Aside from preventing bruises, SmileDrive is designed to
maximize fun on every trip, by connecting to a user’s car—any kind of
car—through Bluetooth® wireless technology, to run in the background and track
data for both everyday commutes and road trips. (Drivers cannot interact with
the app, nor receive any notifications, while the car is in motion.) Then, after
a drive is complete, the app uses factors like location, distance, time, and
weather to deliver users their Smile Score and awards them with virtual bumper
“stickers” for unique accomplishments earned while out and about. (I wish
I had installed the app for my 3400-mile summertime roadtrip across the
southwest United States!)
Labor Day has passed, summer vacations are over, and the
kids are back in school; while it might seem that all the fun is behind us,
football fans welcome a new season of their favorite sport, celebrating many
weekend games in the parking lot of their team’s arena.
Whether you're a superfan or just love one, the start of the season means it's time for tailgating. And for those who love to entertain, tailgating is almost as much a sport as the game itself.
I had loads of family fun over the holiday's playing a new road trip game with my family. This new game would be tons of entertainment for game nights with friends. Easy to learn for kids, Chaotic Connections is highly addictive, we played non-stop all day on Christmas! If you love games with a revenge twist, you will LOVE this game.
Chaotic Connections is a board game, sent to me by the creator to test, that is packed with strategy, chance and competition. The object of the game is to be the first player to connect his or her 4 cities that were randomly dealt at the beginning of the game. By building roads from one city to the next, game players will battle wits to try and win the game.
However, there are Curve Cards, Detours, and those sneaky little players that like to give you an additional city (or two!) to connect. You must also remember that all players building a road can use your road while attempting to connect their cities...so watch out! This may cause them to win the game! To boot...the opponent can break down your road and take all of your hard work away...and then throw in a Road Block for kicks.
It's finally time to put a big bow on the Turtle Wax Summer of Pride Game, which ran from July - September here in the Ask Patty Nation. It took a little time, but our September winner is finally ready to be announced - and along with him, we're going to celebrate all three of our winners from the summer.
The Summer of Pride Game was a Flickr contest that ran all summer - you can still peruse all the entries in the group pool here.
September's Winner: Jacob Humiston Jacob takes pride in many things - his ride among them - but more importantly, WE take pride in HIM, in recognition of his service to the country. Thanks for your service, and for participating in our game, Jacob!
August's Winner: Tim Osborne Tim's Flickr moniker of "MustangMan2011" isn't accidental. Over the summer he sent us photos of several of his precious Ford Mustangs, and this series with the bright yellow new-style 'stang took the cake in August.
July's Winner: Mike Brewer Mike wowed us right away with some classic cars early on in the summer - and this beautiful red Impala was crowned our first winner of the year.
Thanks to everyone who participated, and of course to our good friends at Turtle Wax for helping us bring this contest to you. The Summer of Pride may be over, but remember Turtle Wax and Do Yourself Proud all year long (follow them on Twitter and Facebook too for cool updates) - another summer's coming just around the corner, and until then, the Ask Patty Nation will be rockin' all year long.
It's been a great summer in the Ask Patty Nation, thanks in no small part to the good folks at Turtle Wax. The Summer of Pride contest is coming to a close today, but that doesn't mean it's too late for you to win! Head to the Summer of Pride Flickr group before midnight tonight and submit your photos and our last winner of the year could be you! Let's take a moment to look back on the summer thus far:
In July, we shared tips for the perfect Turtle Wax car wash. It's a great way to spend an afternoon, and will keep your ride sparkling for many summers to come.
On the contest front, Mike Brewer wowed us in July with his beautiful red 1960 Impala.
In August, our tips and tricks turned to a place you may not think to use Turtle Wax products: the home. Kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and more - all can benefit from the protection and shine that Turtle Wax provides.
Also in August, Tim Osborne showed us just how he earned his Flickr nickname: Mustang Man2011, and became our second, and penultimate, winner.
As for September's contest winner? It could be you! Head to the Summer of Pride Flickr group and submit your photos before midnight tonight and celebrate summer one last time before the summer sun sets on the Ask Patty nation! Already entered? Tweet it up with hashtag: #twpridegame and help us go out with a bang!
Thanks to EVERYONE who participated in this contest and made the Summer of Pride one for the history books. Have a great weekend, Ask Patty Nation - we'll see you in the fall!
Mike Brewer and Tim Osborne were July and August's winners, respectively, and deservedly so - will you be our final winner for September? There is still one week left to enter and win, so get those photos uploaded and share your pride today.
Let's bring the Summer of Pride to close with a bang! Upload those photos, and tweet it up with hashtag #twpridegame. In the Ask Patty Nation, it's summer for one more week!

First of all, we'd like to congratulate August's Winner: Tim Osborne of Fort Loramie,Ohio!
