Looking for something fun on TV? Try "Just Shut up and Drive"
Want to take an adventurous trip with a road buddy? Then you'll want to tune in as performance driving legend Rhys Millen joins former Le Mans racer Justin Bell to go head-to-head in a high-performance Lexus RC F through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in season three of "Shut Up And Drive."
Fans of the show, living vicariously through these two drivers, voted online for Rhys and Justin to test their speed and skills on this remote, yet stunning, road. Flanked by picturesque canyons for at least 15 miles, Highway 141 hugs the Dolores River and is tantamount to driving at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
It’s not just gearheads or race car drivers who have a fantasy of shutting down a twisty road and taking it to the max in a performance car -- everyone can relate to that thrill and adventure, which makes for great TV.
Highway 141 is secluded, save for the Gateway Canyons Resort, which is about a 30-minute drive and edges the Colorado / Utah border. The resort was founded by Discovery Channel founder John Hendricks and was ranked the #12 Best Resort in the World by Conde Nast Traveler 2014 Reader’s Choice Awards. The scenery is idyllic, the sky vast and clear, the rock formations splendid, and the driving makes it a true destination for auto enthusiasts. Plus the car is a great shade of eye-searing orange, one of my favorites, and perfectly suited for the red shades of the rock canyons surrounding the drive!
A dedicated Baja pro trophy truck racing course is part of the resort, where guests can get a ride along or learn to drive the road themselves; a fleet of luxury and exotic cars are also available for rent on site for the spectacular driving, and an auto museum showcases the Hendrix family's impressive private collection of about 50 classic American cars.
And in addition to highlighting the scenery, Lexus gets to show off the brand's performance prowess through beautifully shot footage of the high-performance Lexus RC F ripping through the area's winding roads.
The episode premiers on Sunday, May 3rd at 3:30pm ET on Fox Sports 1, with several repeat airings through the rest of the month. Get more information at www.foxsports.com/lexus
