Many manufacturers are implementing hands-free technology to help you interact more safely with your devices while behind the wheel of their cars. Whether it's Bluetooth connectivity to allow you to place calls, operate your music player, or to send and receive texts, these automotive technologies are improving every day and are appearing as standard equipment in more and more new cars.
On top of offering hands-free connectivity for entertainment and cellphone use, most of these systems also integrate automatic notification to 911 in case of accidents.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Ford Fiesta, having preordered my 2011 Fiesta sedan before they even arrived at Ford dealerships. It’s four years old now, and Ford has refreshed the fun Fiesta for the 2014 model year, in a midcycle makeover offering styling changes, improved technology, and a brand-new super-fuel-efficient engine choice.
This month, AskPatty spent some time with Tony Molla, the Vice President of Communications for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence to discuss the topic of general car maintenance and helping women drivers to better know what your car needs.
It’s hard to keep focused while we’re in the car. As Moms, we’re always busy; we’ve got places to go, kids to haul around, and errands to run. And the temptation to take care of small details while stopped at a light or when stuck in traffic is powerful if we feel we can save a few minutes later.
The Fact Is: Americans continue to use electronic devices while driving, despite warnings that it causes their own driving to deteriorate and can lead to crashes, injuries and even death.

We at AskPatty want you to have a safe and sober St. Patrick’s Day!
St. Patrick’s Day has become a worldwide celebration of Irish culture in which people of all backgrounds take part in the festivities, which often include green beer, Irish whiskey, or other types of alcohol. However, revelers still have to get home from the party and drinking -- and driving just don't mix! According to MADD.com, drunk driving kills nearly 10,000 people in the United States each year and injures almost 350,000 more.
How can you ensure a safe and sober St. Patrick’s Day? AskPatty offers these tips for your celebrations:
Be a Responsible Party Host!
Party hosts may be held responsible in a court of law if someone you served alcohol to ends up in a car accident. Make sure your guests have arranged alternate transportation before the party begins, or help them to set up alternate transportation. Take the car keys away from friends and relatives who have had too much to drink. Be sure to have a couple of taxi numbers on hand, or appoint your own designated driver to help drive your guests home. Tell your guests at the start of your party, and pass around a tip jar to help fill up your friends’ gas tank!
March 3rd marked 100 years since suffragists marched on Washington. Suffragists faced a difficult road in their march towards equality. Even women opposed giving women the right to vote. One letter called it "an endorsement of nagging as a national policy." The "National Policy of Nagging" Pinterest board, created by the National Archives, honors this anniversary.
According to NHTSA, the age group with the greatest proportion of distracted drivers falls into the under-20 age group. In 2009, 16% of all drivers younger than 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported to have been distracted while driving.
A 2010 study conducted by AAA and Seventeen Magazine reveals that teens admit to sending a monthly average of 23 texts each month while driving. And of course, 35% of those teens who drive while distracted don't think they'll get hurt.
Because educating young teens about safe driving is a high priority, right now there are two distracted driving scholarship programs accepting video entries to raise awareness in this age group, with prizes to the winning entries that can be worth thousands of dollars!
