2013 Honda Accord Hits the Road in Wine Country
Complete with flower-filled courtyards, restful fountains and red-tiled roofs, the Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara is the perfect place to enjoy the leisurely pace and warm embrace of the California lifestyle and test drive the all new 2013 Honda Accord line up. The evening before the drive we were treated to a reveal of the new models over cocktails, a cool demo of how they design around people in the car and the excellent visibility designed into front and passenger windows. We concluded the evening with a fine dinner of Mexican inspired eats.
In the morning the Honda team went over all the new specs and features in great detail to give us the all the background on all the models including the 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Sedan that is scheduled to debut in early 2013. The technology features are amazing and MANY for safety, drivability, communication, GPS location and entertainment. Something for every busy on the go woman driver needs and more.
I test drove both the all new Honda Accord 2013 Sedan and Coupe models and had so much fun driving the 6 speed manual Coupe, YES a stick shift! Very sporty feel as I took a long test drive over hill and vale in the Santa Barbara wine country. We stopped for a Asian inspired lunch at the Firestone Winery, (no wine tasting darn it). On the way back I drove the Sedan with Tanya from Mommy Goggles which was so quiet and smooth, good thing too as Tanya's tummy did not agree with all the winding roads!
My 2013 Honda Accord driving impressions: Nimble, quick acceleration on both models. Smooth drive on uneven surfaces, better in the Sedan than the Coupe. The manual 6 speed shifting was smooth and easy to handle as well. Loved the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system and the standard on all models rear backup camera.
Trunk space is very roomy for a mid size compact car. New body style and trim is quite a sexy departure from prior years Honda Accord plain Jane models.
I so enjoyed meeting all the women bloggers and media at the event, including Tanya from Mommy Goggles and Jill from UrbanMommies Media in Canada, and most of all the of so effervescent Vicki Poponi, Assistant VP Honda Product Planning, who will be my September 20th Automotive Advice for Women Radio Show Guest. Be sure and turn in at 3pm PDT / 6pm EDT to learn more about the all new2013 Honda Accord and Vicki's career in automotive, a fascinating story.
Big thanks to Honda for inviting me to the event!
Better, not bigger, is the claim from Honda for the completely new Honda Accord lineup includes Sedan and Coupe models powered by 4-cylinder, V-6 and hybrid powertrains, teamed to manual, automatic and continuously variable transmission (CVT) options. The 2013 Honda Accord Sedan goes on sale September 19, 2012, with the Coupe to follow on October 15, 2012. An all-new, two-motor 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Sedan is scheduled to debut in early 2013, followed by a conventional hybrid based on the same powertrain architecture in the summer of 2013.
Child and Safety Features
The Accord will earn 5 Stars (the top rating) in federal NHTSA crash testing, along with Good crash ratings (the top level) and a TOP SAFETY PICK rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Two Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) child seat-mounting positions are built into the outboard rear seats. The LATCH system utilizes both an upper child-seat tether anchor and dedicated lower-anchor points that are built into the body of the vehicle. These help ensure correct mounting of a compatible child seat. A third upper tether is located in the rear center position. Accord Sedan models also feature childproof rear door locks. When engaged, they permit the rear doors to be opened only from the outside, thereby helping to prevent accidental opening by a child.
Safety advancements include a thoroughly revised Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure and available Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) systems.
The 2013 Accord is the first Honda product to feature HondaLink™ technology. It’s the new center point for Honda owners for hands-free access to cloud-based services, audio and information, and is designed to keep Accord drivers informed and connected while on the go. HondaLink is available in EX-L and above Accord Sedan and EX and above Accord Coupe.
HondaLink works with the owner’s compatible smartphone to connect the Accord with music and information resources, internet apps, roadside assistance and more.
Set to launch in September 2012, Aha™ by Harman is the first HondaLink resource; future apps will expand the functionality of HondaLink substantially, and allow Accord owners to easily add capability.
Owners can use the HondaLink website to access information or change preferences. HondaLink is also accessible via Twitter, Facebook, and other online tools. A series of free HondaLink apps are also available, including My Honda, personal profile and roadside assistance. Because HondaLink utilizes a cloud-based platform, as features, functions and apps grow, Accord owners will be able to enjoy the latest capabilities.
Aha™ by Harman
A new feature called Aha™ is accessed via HondaLink and is standard on the Accord EX-L Sedan and above, and standard on Accord EX Coupe and above. Aha organizes the Accord owner’s favorite content from the web into personalized on-demand radio stations in the vehicle. Aha is a comprehensive, cloud-based platform optimized for the automotive environment that provides a simple integration point for HondaLink equipped vehicles to bring in a wide range of current and future applications into the audio system head unit. This new capability allows users to access their favorite podcasts, internet radio, on-demand music, restaurant recommendations, and even audio updates from Facebook and Twitter.
