Happy Birthday to the Automobile!
It's a historic day! On January 29th, 1886, some 125 years ago, German inventor Karl Benz was granted a patent for his Motorcar No.1, giving birth to the age of the automobile and making modern transportation possible.
This year Daimler is celebrating the anniversary with a year-long celebration which kicks off today, January 29th, in Stuttgart, Germany. The celebration will feature a whopping 1,800 guests, including the German chancellor Angela Merkel.
Daimler's Dr. Deiter Zetsche has released an audio interview (in English) where he talks about the 125th birthday of the automotive age, a news release (also audio) about the celebration, and a text transcript of the Zetsche interview. You can hear and see those items here.
