Pamela Nicholson, president of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, named to Forbes' 100 Most Powerful Women in the World For 2009

Pam-Nicholson-9-06_HI Pamela Nicholson, president of Enterprise Rent-A-Car has once again been named to Forbes' 2009 list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World.

Forbes ranks Nicholson as number 89 on the 2009 list for becoming the first woman and non-family member to take the wheel of St. Louis-based Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Last year she was ranked at 92. Nicholson has also been ranked on Fortune magazine's list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business; in 2008 she was Number 29, up from 44 in 2007.

A 30-year company veteran, Nicholson began her career with Enterprise when she graduated college in 1981 and joined the company as a management trainee. In the 1990s, Nicholson turned heads when she grew the California rental fleet from 1000 cars to nearly 30,000, making it the company's largest operating group. In 1997, Nicholson was promoted to General Manager of Enterprise's New York region, where she doubled the profitability of the company's second largest operating group. Last year, she was appointed company president, making her only the fourth person to hold the office in Enterprise's 51-year history. Nicholson is only the second executive outside the Taylor family to serve as the company's president, following founder Jack C. Taylor; his son, Andy; and her predecessor, Donald L. Ross.

Enterprise is a privately held company owned by the Taylor Family of St. Louis. It is a multi-national transportation company which reported worldwide annual revenues in excess of $10 billion in 2008. The company employs more than 4000 people in the St. Louis area, and nearly 75,000 worldwide; rental car fleet comprised more than 714,000 cars in 2008.

Outside of her Enterprise duties, Nicholson has been extremely involved in community causes including past service on the board of the United Way of Bergen County, New Jersey; and as a past member of the board of INROADS of St. Louis, an employment program for minority college students. She currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the Humane Society of Missouri. She has been a member of the board of trustees of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association, a director of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, and a generous supporter of a number of social causes in the St. Louis area, including the United Way.

For the fourth consecutive year, German Chancellor Angela Merkel ranks as the world's most powerful woman. Nicholson and the other women on the Forbes list were selected based on career achievements, economic impact, and media coverage for each woman. The list includes business executives, politicians, media personalities, and heads of non-profit organizations rounding out the top 100. Read more at www.forbes.com/women.

FWIW, Michelle Obama also made the Forbes list this year, ranked at number 40 for her position as First Lady.
