When Secret Affairs go Bad: BMW Heiress Blackmailed

BMW1-logo A report at CNN.com/Europe states,  “Germany's richest woman Susanne Klatten has said she is being blackmailed by former lover who threatened to release pictures of them together if she did not pay him millions of euros (dollars).”

Apparently, she is a pretty wealthy woman: Klatten is the daughter of BMW magnate Herbert Quandt, and shares a 46-percent stake in the company with her mother and brother. She also owns a majority share of a chemical company, as well. All told, she’s got a supposed value of about 7.8 billion Euros (that translates to about 15 billion American dollars), and Forbes places her at #55 on their list of the world’s billionaires.

According to an article at NineMSN.com,  the 46-year-old married mother of three fell for the smooth-talking charms of 41-year-old Helg Sgarbi in mid-2007 and entered a steamy affair. (Aw heck, what mother of three doesn’t occasionally need a little pick-me-up?) Even though she ended the romance soon after, she didn’t realize he had an accomplice recording their escapades onto videotape. (Eeeuuw, creepy!)

When the badguy sent Klatten  a letter and a sample DVD telling her he would release compromising videos unless she paid him (get this) as much as 40 million euros (32 million dollars!), Klatten went to the Munich police to report the blackmail, said the BMW heiress' personal spokesman Joerg Appelhans, because she realized "from the beginning the goal was to betray and blackmail her."

Reports say the evil Lothario acted with the assistance of several others, family members, and even his wife! And, according to a German newspaper, “two or three other rich German women” have fallen victim to similar scams in recent years, and the guy has earned a pretty penny by entrapping wealthy women. Possibly as much as 1.6 million Euros.

Looks like the Swiss gigolo won’t be spending any of Klatten’s money… it’s much more likely he’ll  be spending a fair amount of time behind bars, instead.
