Sarah Fisher is lending her voice to the Boys and Girls Club of America. Recently, Fisher’s appeared in Northwest Arkansas, she was in town to attend the 12th annual Vendors FORE Education golf tournament -- which raised almost $21,000 for scholarships for college students interested in the retail industry.
The tournament and scholarships are coordinated through the Center for Retail Excellence.
“I drive 220 miles per hour which means I can cover a football field in a minute. Competing in the Indy series is physically demanding. I have to run and work out. There are all kinds of challenges on and off the course
. Some teams have four cars and 100 people to work on them. We have one car and four people. But I believe in what I am doing, and we’ve succeeded in spite of the ups and down. I encourage you to follow your dreams and persevere at whatever you want to do.”
Boys have gotten what they've always wanted -- a catfight in the IRL.
Danica Pa
trick had some choice words for fellow driver Milka Duno, but Duno could have cared less that Patrick thought she was driving too slow.
The Brazilian driver basically told Patrick to stick it and put an exclamation on it by tossing her sweaty towel in Patrick's face.
Needless to say, Danica -- not amused.
When Angelle Sampey announced her move from the Schumacher Suzuki team to Karl Klement's Buell camp late last season, most insiders quickly pegged her as the favorite for the POWERade world championship. Currently ranked fifth, Sampey remains in contention for her fourth world title, but heading into the Sonoma event, she has yet to win a race or even appear in a final round. However, Hines isn't about to count her out.
"Yeah, I'm a little surprised by Angelle this year," said Hines. "I knew it would take her a few runs to adjust to riding a V-Twin for the first time, but I really thought by now she'd be kicking our butts. They will get that bike figured out sooner or later, and my money is on them getting it figured out right about the time the Countdown [to 1] starts at Indy. Something will click, and she will be a handful for the second half of the season. I'm sure of that."
Cindi Lux (Aloha, Ore.) finished a frustrating weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with a frustrating finish. The 11-time road racing champion left the Lexington facility with a 28th-place finish after a gearbox malfunction on the 19th lap. Lux entered the one-hour Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) SPEED World Challenge race weekend with high expectations for the No. 2 Team Mopar Dodge Viper Competition Coupe.
However, Lux's third race of 2008 SPEED World Challenge GT season got off to a difficult to start when the Mopar Dodge Viper Comp. Coupe was struck from behind in the first practice session on Friday. The impact caused substantial damage to the left-rear of the car. While the exact cause for the malfunction of the six-speed gearbox in Sunday's race cannot be confirmed there is speculation that the issue may be a result of Friday's on-track incident.
Only three laps into the weekend, the 1999 American Le Mans Series' Women's Global GT Series Champion was under braking deep in the brake zone at turn seven when she was hit from behind.

Melanie Troxel did not have a good weekend in Seattle.
She wasn't able to get the round wins she was looking for but she was able to stay in contention for a spot in NHRA's Countdown to 1 championship.
"It was a disappointing weekend for the team at the time of year when we really need to be making a charge to get into the top 10," Troxel said. "It seems like we haven't won a round in a long time. The bright side is that everybody right with us in the standings -- 11, 12 and 13 all went out with us. We aren't falling further behind but we aren't making up the ground we need to."
She is 14th, 104 points behind 10th place with four races to go in the 18-race regular season.
"When you are having a rough time it is better to get back out there and run again rather than sit around and think about it too much," said Troxel. "The car runs good numbers during the weekend. We aren't lost on the tune-up; it's just that all the little details don't seem to be coming together.
"Hopefully we'll come back and turn things around in Sonoma."
