CarBlabber Featured Car Review - By Women for Women

NellsCarBlabber Review by Nells - Member since August 16, 2007

I bought my 1998 Ford Crown Victoria on April 6, 2000.It had 23,490 miles on it.Now it has about 86,000.

This particular Vic has the Handling & Performance Package. This gave you rear air "springs", dual exhaust, 16" BBS-style alloys, and a few other handling items. My car is loaded with everything but leather and CD player.I don't mind... I prefer cloth.

The engine is a 4.6 V8, rated at 215hp with the dual exhaust.I added Bilstein performance shocks because I wanted a tighter ride. While the car has less horsepower than newer Vics, most of the time I'm satisfied with its performance.I can take on-off ramps pretty fast, though my Goodyear Eagle LS tires limit things slightly. They are good tires, but something with more performance would help a bit.

Quality overall is great.Far better than the Chevys we used to own in our family. One gripe I have is that the plastic door panels inside are a bit too cheap. The driver's almost ALWAYS cracks.Mine is no exception.Bit fit and finish is nice, and other than some age related items I have had to fix, the car seems to go through anything.

Which makes me think of snow.Don't be fooled! These cars CAN go through snow! You just need 4 snow tires, a good head on your shoulders, a bag of sand in the trunk JUST IN CASE, and shut the traction control OFF.I've only been stuck in snow with this car once. And it was in a raging snow storm, trying to get up the unplowed driveway at work, which is very steep. It just tales skill and smarts to drive these cars in snow.

So all in all, if you want a large sedan with a huge trunk, and that is very safe, the Vic is the way to go.But keep in mind base Vics don't handle the same as one with the performance package. They are hard to find, but worth looking for.
