United Spinal Association Offers Valuable Information during Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Month

Logo_unitedspine Jackson Heights, NY – As a provider of services and programs to people with spinal cord disorders, United Spinal Association recognizes March as Multiple Sclerosis Education and Awareness Month. Throughout its 60 year history, United Spinal has been offering free educational information to its members and beyond. One of the organizations’ most comprehensive and vital resources to date is offered to people living with MS, Multiple Sclerosis Quarterly Report (MSQR).

MSQR is filled with an abundance of MS-related news and information, including current breakthroughs in MS research, new national clinical drug trials as well as in-depth and focused feature articles on advancements in MS care, the latest treatment strategies and many other quality of life issues essential to daily living.

A joint publication of United Spinal Association and the Consortium of MS Centers (CMSC)/North American Research Committee on Multiple Sclerosis (NARCOMS), MSQR offers timely, topical and unique content to a loyal and diverse readership that includes MS patients, caregivers, clinicians, and researchers.

According to Denise Campagnolo, MD, medical director at NARCOMS and editor of MSQR, “MSQR provides objective, research based information on MS to NARCOMS registry participants and their families. The registry participants are instrumental in all our research projects and we are delighted to have an opportunity to share with them, as well as United Spinal members, the exciting results of the latest MS research in the form of feature articles written specifically for the MSQR readership.”

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that affects more than 400,000 people in the US. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, but the unpredictable physical and emotional effects can last a lifetime.

Common symptoms of MS include fatigue, weakness, spasticity, balance problems, bladder and bowel problems, numbness, vision loss, tremors, and depression. Not all symptoms, however, affect all patients with MS. Typically, no two persons have the same complaints and no one develops all of the symptoms.

To become a member of United Spinal Association and receive a free subscription to MSQR, visit www.unitedspinal.org. To find out more about MS or for the latest issue of MSQR, please visit www.unitedspinal.org/msqr.

For more than 60 years, United Spinal Association has provided expertise, created access to resources and strengthened hope, thereby enabling people with spinal cord injuries and disorders (SCI/D) to fulfill their potential as active members of their communities. Membership in the Association is free and open to all people with SCI/D. For more information, please visit: www.unitedspinal.org or call 800-404-2898.
