Le Chat and Le Car
I am definitely a dog person. That’s not to say I don’t
enjoy other creatures. I do. I even ride horses every week and teach city
classes at the stables. We have a sheep there and tons of chickens, as well as
a pig named Happy. I bet he is. We also have a darling little cat named Peanut.
I really like this cat. She does her thing, keeps mice out of the horse tack
and generally lounges around lazily in the sun while everyone adores her. Ah,
the life of a cat.
My grandma had lots of cats. She was “the cat lady” on the
block, if you know what I mean. And she loved every single one of them. Let’s
see, there was Purrscilla (yes, “purr”), Buster, Opie, Augustus, Emily, April, Musette,
Jean-Tom, Pierre, Adrienne, Eloise,
Ingrid, Olga, and Umbubalie. I didn’t make that last one up. Honest to
goodness. she really had a cat named Umbubalie.
My grandma never took her cats on the road with her when she
went anywhere so she never made her felines suffer the indecency of being
stuffed into a crate and dragged into the car. But Molly of the Molly Bawn
Chronicles certainly has an interested story to tell about Le Chat and a recent
new try at the car ride. My favorite part is this:
"First I had to get him into the car. He's always interested in peeking outside when the door is open, so I maintained an air of nonchalance as I went back and forth, because he's only interested as long as it doesn't involve him. As soon as it starts to look like you might have plans to stuff him in a cage and take him to the vet, he hides under the bed. My acting was superb. I had him in the car, struggling, and very p.o.'d before you could say Meow. I didn't even try to wrestle ten pounds of strong, unwilling cat into the cage."
